Spaniard Francisco Mancebo won the fourth stage of the Vuelta Asturias covering 180.2 kilometres from Cafes Toscaf to El Acebo. The Rock Racing rider reached the mountain top finish seven seconds ahead of Nuno Ribeiro (Liberty Seguros) and 10 seconds in front of Javier Moreno Bazán (Andalucia Cajasur).
Mancebo's climbing performance on a stage containing three category one climbs, including the 10-kilometre ascent to the finish, moved him from 8th overall into the race lead. Overnight leader Tiago Machado (Madeinox Boavista) finished in 18th place, 3:44 behind Mancebo, and now trails the Rock Racing rider by 28 seconds on general classification. Bazán moved from 11th into 3rd on general classification and sits 35 seconds behind Mancebo.
The Vuelta Asturias concludes tomorrow with a relatively flat 177.7-kilometre stage from Cangas de Narcea to Oviedo. The riders will tackle a pair of category three climbs at 30.7 kilometres and 106.2 kilometres and a gentle rise to the finish in Oviedo.
